Dutchwomen split series with SUNY Plattsburgh

Lauren Hoffman went 4-for-5 with three RBI in two games on Saturday against SUNY Plattsburgh.

SCHENECTADY, NY –
The Union College softball team split its two-game series against SUNY Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon at Alexander Field. The Dutchwomen took game one 3-1 while the Cardinals took the second game 4-3 in eight innings.

Ginni Sack pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts en route to improving her record to 7-2 while Ashley Marshall pitched seven innings and struck out seven but suffered the loss. However, Marshall earned the win in the second game after coming into the game in relief. Her record is now 6-2.

Lauren Hoffman lifted the Dutchwomen to victory in game one, batting 2-for-2 and drove in all three runs. Hoffman got Dutchwomen started in the second inning when she hit a single to right field to drive in Allie Sirrine. Hoffman then broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth when she hit a two RBI single to right field that gave the Dutchwomen a 3-1 lead.

Danielle Gjergji hit an RBI double to center field that tied the game at one in the third inning.

Tiffany Ippoliti pitched all eight innings in the second game, striking out 10 and allowed three earned runs. Ashley Woo homered to left center field to score the winning run in the eighth inning.

The Dutchwomen started the second game scoring three runs in two innings. Nina Cervini hit a RBI single to center in the first inning and in the second inning Sirrine reached home on a wild pitch and Erika Hillenbrand grounded out but drove in Hoffman.

Plattsburgh State got on board in the fourth inning. Ashley Napear hit a RBI double to left center and Corinne Gioia hit an RBI single to make it a 3-2 ballgame. The Cardinals tied the game in the fifth inning when Erin Jamieson reached home on a pickoff error.

Union hits the road to SUNY Oneonta on April 6. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
