Boileau, Sack, Schapp receive ESPN the Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Three members of the Union College athletic teams have received ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors. Men's ice hockey player Stéphane Boileau, senior Ginni Sack of the softball team, and swimmer Steve Schapp have been honored on the teams voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Boileau was a First Team All-District selection for the at-large program, Sack was a third team pick for the softball district team and Schapp was chosen to the at-large second team.

Boileau, who carries a 3.88 GPA om Neuroscience, was a finalist of the ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year award and will be making his second-straight appearance on the ECAC Hockey All-Academic team. The winner of the Thomas Vanarden Dukehard award for the highest GPA on the men's ice hockey team, Boileau was named Union College's junior student-athlete of the year. He highest sixth on the team in 2009-10 with 21 points, producing eight goals and 13 assists in 35 games. Boileau's selection to the first team makes him eligible for Academic All-American honors, which will be announced on June 8.

Sack has a 3.53 GPA and is a Neuroscience major. She was 15-5 with four saves and a 2.14 ERA. She became Union's all time career victory leader, and finished her career with 63. She was also second all time in innings pitched with 458 2/3 innings, just one third of an inning shy of the all-time leader, and her 271 strikeouts wind up third all time. A three time Liberty League Pitcher of the Week, Sack ranked third in the league in ERA, opponent batting average and innings. She had 11 appearances without an earned run and posted a one hit shutout vs. New Paltz. She had 15 games with four or less hits, was 7-1 with four saves since April 18 and had a 1.05 ERA in 26.2 league innings during the regular season.

Schapp has a 3.60 GPA and majors in Psychology, with a minor in English. He was a three time All-American in the 1650 freestyle and was a four time UNYSCSA Conference Champion in the 500 free. Schapp was a two time UNYSCSA Conference Champion in the 1650 and he holds the Union record in the 500 free, 1000 free and 1650 free. He received the Douglas McDevitt Award Winner from the UNYSCSA Conference and was a five time Liberty League Swimmer of the Week.
