No. 7/7 Union continues chase for Cleary Cup at St. Lawrence

Union has a 7-2-1 record in ECAC road contests, including a current five game road winning streak in conference play.

SCHENECTADY, NY - No. 7 Union (23-7-3, 15-3-1 ECAC Hockey) extended the longest winning streak in the nation to eight games with a 4-3 overtime win at Clarkson last night. With the win last night, the Dutchmen have their longest winning streak since moving up to Division I in 1991, and a new single-season wins record, surpassing the previous mark of 22 wins set by both the 1976-77 and 1984-85 teams. Union will take on St. Lawrence (10-16-5, 6-12-1 ECAC Hockey) tonight at Appleton Arena, a team that has a number of impressive wins over ranked teams on its resume. Last night, the Saints added one more win against a ranked opponent, with a 5-3 victory over No. 14 Rensselaer, their third win against ranked competition this season. St. Lawrence recorded a 3-2 win against Yale at Appleton Arena last Friday, and a 2-1 win at New Hampshire on Jan. 2. The Dutchmen have won four games in a row against the Saints, and two of the last three meetings at  Appleton Arena.
 
Union Clinches First Round Bye, Eyes Cleary Cup
Last night, the Dutchmen clinched a first round bye in the ECAC Tournament, securing a top four finish in the conference for the third time in program history (2008, 2010, 2011). With 31 points, the Dutchmen can finish no worse than second in the conference, solidifying a series at Messa Rink when they take the ice for the ECAC Playoffs. The ECAC-leading Dutchmen have a one point advantage over second place Yale in the race for the Cleary Cup with three games remaining for both teams.
