Hamilton outlasts Union in extra Innings, 8-7

AUBURNDALE, FL- Freshman Dane O'Neil pitched a stellar game but the Dutchmen baseball team could not hold a late 6-3 lead in the ninth inning as Hamilton defeated Union 8-7 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational.
 
O'Neil went seven innings giving up five hits, three runs, three walks, and striking out five. Nick Ranalli went 2-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI. Joe Bradlee was 1-for-4 with a double, run scored, and a RBI. Dave Peretti also had a double with two RBIs. 
 
Michael Matt was 2-for-3 with a double for Hamilton. 
 
The Continentals got on the board in the second inning.  Wes Mayberry scored on a balk by O'Neil to put Hamilton up 1-0. Union would tie the game in the top of the fourth. Dylan Katz-Wicks singled and then stole second. Dane Flavin lined out to centerfield. Peter Mugford reached on a fielder's choice which got Katz-Wicks out at second. Matt Barretto was then hit by pitch which advanced Mugford to second. Anthony Cassese singled which scored Mugford to tie the game.
 
The Dutchmen would go up 2-1 in the top of the fifth and then 4-1 in the sixth on a double by Peretti. Hamilton would score once in the bottom of the inning and once in the seventh inning to make it 4-3. A Bradlee double and Peretti single would push Union's lead to 6-3 going into the bottom of the eighth. 
 
Union was in control and looking to close out the game when Hamilton rallied to scored three runs to send the game to extra innings. The Continentals had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th when Todd Haylon's double brought in the winning runsfor Hamilton.
 
Matt Rogers took the loss for Union.
 
The Dutchmen return to the field tomorrow when they take on Hope College at 3 pm.
