Softball splits in Florida with win over Scranton to open the day

Senior second baseman Callee Heywood and freshman pitcher Jena Servidone each had three hits to lead Union to a 15-14 softball victory over Scranton Monday. It marked the first career victory for Union's first year head softball coach, Jamie Prudhomme.

The Dutchwomen lost the second game of the day, 12-4 in five innings to St. Thomas, and now stand 1-5 for they young season.

In the opener, Heywood was three for five with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Servidone got her first career victory, as she pitched 6 2/3 innings and struck out two. At the plate, Servidone was three for four with two RBIs and a pair of doubles as well. Freshman Rachel Noall hit her first career home run, a two run shot, and finished with three RBIs. Amanda Blake got the final out of the game for her first save.

Julianna Nat led Scranton with three hits and three RBIs, while Jamie Shackles and Kristen Williams had two hits and two RBIs each. Kelly Zaccheo went four innings and Annie Zeleniak pitched the final three.

The Tommies got five runs in the third inning to break open a 2-2 game en route to the victory in Union's second contest of the day. Sydney Marquardt had three hits and four RBIs along with a steal. Erica Wilson and Becky Eischens each had twho hits and two RBIs.

Heywood and Noell had two hits each for the Dutchwomen, and Noell also drove in two and stole a base. Becky Gronczniak had an RBI.

Union plays D'Youville at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, then takes on Colby at 5:30 p.m.
