AUBURNDALE, FL- The Union Dutchmen baseball team picked up their first two wins of the season as they swept a doubleheader against D'Youville Tuesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park. Union improves their record to 2-2.
Andrew Beaule started the first game and went 5 2/3 innings. He gave up five hits, three runs, walked six and struck out nine.
Dan Minnes went 1 1/3 innings and gave up three hits, walked one and struck out two. At the plate,
Dane Flavin was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored.
Tyler Heck was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
David Peretti was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a run scored.
Nate Wiles went five innings for D'Youville and gave up two hits, one run, two walks, ans two strikeouts. Mike Anderson came in relief and pitched 1.2 innings and gave up three hits, three runs, and one walk. Jordan Vokes and Brent Gibbs both had two hits.
The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the fourth inning. Flavin tripled to lead off the inning. Anthony Cassesse flied out to left field for the sacrifice fly to score Flavin and put Union up 1-0. D'Youville answered back in the top of the fifth and scored three runs is go ahead 3-1.
The game would remain 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh and Union up to bat. With one out, Peretti doubled down the lf line.
Joe Bradlee pinch hit for
Emmanuel Fabre and walked.
Peter Mugford then pinch-hit for
John Moore and singled to put two men on base. After Nick Ranalli popped up to short, Mugford and Bradlee advanced on a passed ball which scored Peretti. Heck then hit the game winning double down the left field line to bring in two runs and win the game for Union 4-3.
Brendan McLaughlin started the second game and went five innings give up two runs, one walk and two strikeouts.
Quinn Rhoda pitched one inning and had one strikeout,
Drew Amboian pitched one inning and gave up one walk and one strikeout. At the plate, Dominic Calistro was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Minnes was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs.
Vincent Esposito went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Justin Real was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an two RBIs.
Fernando Gomez was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, a run scored and two RBIs.
Dylan Katz-Wicks and
Tyler Heck both went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Heck also had a RBI.
Alex Pragle pitched three innings and gave up seven hits, seven runs (five earned) one walk and struck out two. Mike Anderson went four innings and gave up seven hits and two runs. Shayne Christie was 2-for-2 to lead the team along with Brett Shay who was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Dutchmen built a 4-0 lead in the first inning and then 5-0 in the second inning and then 7-0 in the third inning. D'Youville scored twice in the bottom of the third to make it 7-2 but it was as close as they would get as Union would tack a run on in the fourth and in the seventh to win 9-2.
Union is off tomorrow and will face Allegheny on Thursday morning at 9 am.
