Baseball Earns Split with Clarkson

POTSDAM, NY-
Phil Kemp pitched a complete game and only gave up one earned run as the Dutchmen baseball team defeated Clarkson 9-2 in the second game of a double header on Sunday afternoon.
 
Kemp gave up seven hits, two walks and struck out six for his second win of the season. At the plate, Dane Flavin went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Dylan Katz-Wicks was 2-for-2 and Dom Calistro was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. 
 
Clarkson got on the board first in the game and was up 2-0 after three innings. Union went ahead for good in the bottom of the fourth. Katz-Wicks led off with a single. Fernando Gomez came in to pinch run for him. Dan Minnes reached on a fielder's choice which moved Gomez in second. Tyler Heck's sac bunt moved Minnes and Gomez up one base. Flavin then singled which brought in both runners. Flavin then stole second. After Anthony Cassese struck out, Nicholas Ranalli walked and then advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt which scored Flavin and gave Union a 3-2 lead.
 
Union scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to go up 5-2. Four runs would score in the bottom of the eighth to increase the Dutchmen lead to 9-2. 
 
Kyle Moldoff took the loss for the Golden Knights.
 
Clarkson cruised in the first game 15-0. Andrew Beaule started for Union and went 5.2 innings and gave up nine hits, six earned runs, two walks, and struck out six.
 
Union only managed three hits in the game. 
 
The Dutchmen are now 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the Liberty League. They will host SUNY Oneonta in a non-league game on Tuesday at 4 pm at Central Park.
