Dutchmen Hold on to Defeat Red Dragons

Heck was 3-for-4 at the plate

- Visiting Oneonta had a 3-0 lead but the host Dutchmen came back and then held on to defeat the Red Dragons 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon at Central Park. With the win, Union is now 7-9 overall on the season. Oneonta falls to 15-8.
 
Cody Portin got the start for Union and went six innings giving up five hits, three runs (two earned), walked three, and struck out five for his first win of the season. Quinn Rhoda pitched one inning of relief and struck out one for his first save.
 
At the plate, Tyler Heck was 3-for-4 with a double, one run scored, and one RBI. Anthony Cassese was 2-for-4 with a double, one run scored, two RBIs and a stolen base. Joe Bradlee went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
 
Corey Andresen took the loss for Oneonta. He went four innings and gave up six hits, three earned runs, two walks and struck out six. Peter Linder was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and one run scored. Jonathan Wolfanger was 1-for-4 with a double, one run scored, and an RBI. 
 
The Red Dragons got on the board with two runs in the second inning. They would add one run in the fourth to go up 3-0. Union would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Bradlee led off with a single and then Heck followed with another single. Dane Flavin then singled to load the bases. Cassese then ripped a double down the left field line which scored Heck and Bradlee. Dom Calistro struck out and Fernando Gomez flied out to center field which scored Flavin from third. David Peretti's single scored Cassese to give the Dutchmen the 4-3 lead.
 
Union would add one run in the sixth inning. With two outs, Bradlee walked. Heck hit a double which fell just short of going over the wall to score Bradlee and make it 5-3 Union.
 
The Dutchmen would run into some trouble in the eighth. Chris Allen gave up two straight hits with one resulting in a run to get Oneonta to within one of tying the game. He was replaced by Drew Amboian who got the last out of the inning and prevented any further damage.
 
Rhoda came in to close out the ninth and went 1-2-3 to nail down the save.
 
Union will host Liberty League rival Skidmore this Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 12 pm at Central Park.
