NEW PALTZ, NY -- Junior catcher
Nina Cervini had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Union College softball team to an 8-5 softball win at SUNY New Paltz Tuesday at Mary Gray Deane Field. But the Hawks scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth to pull out a 5-4 victory in the nightcap of the non-league doubleheader.
The Dutchwomen are now 10-20, while the Hawks end the day with a 13-17 record.

Callee Heywood and
Samantha Chevalier joined Cervini with two hits each in the 12 hit attack. Chevalier had two RBIs and Wolejko won her fifth of the season in a complete game five hitter. She allowed three earned runs and struck out eight.
Courtney Costello took the loss for New Paltz. She gave up four earned runs and five hits in three innings. Cassie Barcavage had two RBIs. Union scored in each of the second through sixth innings.
Union took a 4-2 lead with two runs in the top of the eighth of the second game. Union did not have a hit in the inning, scoring both runs on wild pitches. But in the bottom of the inning, New Paltz tied it up at 4-4 with two RBI double by Chelsea Kull. In the last of the ninth, with Melissa Kump placed on second with the extra inning rule, Gillian Davidoff bunted to advance Kump. But a throwing error led to the unearned run and the home team's win.
Samantha Barra and Shelby Martin had two hits each for the Hawks. Davidoff, who pitched a one hit ninth, got the win in relief.
Carson Mehl had two of Union's five hits and
Amanda Blake gave up nine hits in the complete game loss while striking out four.
The Dutchwomen get right back on the field Wednesday with a non-league doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. at SUNY Oswego.
