UTICA, NY -- Freshman Rachel Noall had three hits including a home run and Alicia Jones also had three hits to lead Union College to a 10-7 non-league softball win over host Utica College at Greenman Field Wednesday. The Pioneers, now 8-8, won the opener, 7-3 over the Dutchwomen (now 5-13).
The Dutchwomen had 17 hits in the second contest. Pitcher Alyssa Wolejko, who had the complete game win, had two hits and Samantha Chevalier had two hits and her fourth homer of the season. Wolejko allowed 10 hits and struck out five to even her record to 3-3 in her freshman season. Eight of Union's nine batters had at least one hit.
The Dutchwomen trailed 5-4 after four but put five on the board in the top of the fifth to take the lead for good. Mallory Ingalls had three of the 10 Pioneer hits. Reliever Stephanie Romanow, the second of three Utica pitchers, took the loss.
In the opener, leadoff batter and shortstop Lauren Hoffman had three hits for the Dutchwomen, but Union was held to seven by heather Kingsbury. She allowed three earned runs and struck out one for her sixth win of the year. Kim Martin had two of Utica's six hits, and Ingalls and Barton had homers for the hosts. Chevalier homered for the Dutchwomen. Starter Amanda Blake gave up five hits in two and a third innings.
Utica scored three in the first and added four in the bottom of the third in the opener.
The Dutchwomen are back in action at home Thursday. Union will play Alfred University at 3:30 p.m. at Alexander Field in an addition to the 2011 schedule.
