Dutchmen rally but fall to Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- The Union baseball team fell behind 5-1 late against Williams and rallied but were short in their efforts as they lost to the Ephs 6-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

Cody Portin got the start for the Dutchmen and went five innings giving up four hits, four runs (one earned), two walks, and struck out one. Matt Barretto was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, and a run scored. Vincent Esposito went 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs scored, and a RBI. Marc Douglas was 2-for-3.

Williams had a lead of 4-0 after the second inning. Union finally got on the board in the top of the sixth inning on Justin Real's RBI single that scored Esposito. After The Ephs got that run back in the bottom of the inning, it was 5-1 Williams going into the seventh.

After Jason Cohen grounded out to short to lead off, Barretto walked and then stole second. Joe Bradlee then laced a single to right field that scored Barretto. Esposito then triple to score Bradlee and make it 5-3. Peter Mugford was then hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners. After Nathan Foster popped out, Dom Calistro singled to score Esposito to make it a 5-4 score and get Union back into the game.
Williams would add an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth. Union would go down 1-2-3 in the ninth to end the game.

Wilson Barr pitched 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win for the Ephs. He gave up eight hits one run (not earned), one walk and struck out two. Portin was charged with his first loss of the season and is now 2-1.

Union (11-18) continues road play with a game against Utica tomorrow at 4 pm.
