SCHENECTADY, NY -- Junior shortstop Tori Nadow drove in all two runs and sophomore third baseman Brittany Griffin had three hits for the Rochester Institute of Technology in a 3-1 softball win at Union College's Alexander Field Saturday. The second game was halted due to rain in the top of the fourth with Union leading 1-0, and is scheduled to be completed after tomorrow's scheduled games.
Union hosts the University of Rochester tomorrow and the games have been moved up to 11:00 a.m., while RIT will play at RPI Sunday. The Tigers improved to 11-20 overall and 3-4 in the league, while the Dutchwomen are also 3-4 in the league and 17-12 for the season.
Shannon McCormick also had two hits for RIT, while Sarah Colmus won for the fifth time this spring. She allowed eight hits and the one earned run while walking just one and striking out a batter. Nadow had a two out, two run triple in the first and Griffin also had a two out hit, an RBI double in the second.
Union had two hits each from
Alyssa Wolejko and
Amanda Blake, and the lone run came aon a solo homer over the left field fence by
Kristin Schmidt in the third inning. Blake took the complete game loss, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. She settled down and allowed just two hits and a walk over the last five innings.
In the second game, Union took a 1-0 lead in the third as
Erika Hillenbrand tripled to lead off the inning and came home on a two out single by
Samantha Chevalier. With one out and Nadow on with a double in the fourth, the game was called and will resume later Sunday.
