Game 2
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- Union exploded for 13 runs with
Alyssa Wolejko leading the way with three hits and three RBIs in a 13-1, five inning win over Skidmore in the second game of Saturday's Liberty League softball doubleheader at Thoroughbred Field. Sam Crose tossed a four-hit shutout to lead Skidmore to a 1 -0 win over Union in game one.
The Thoroughbreds remain even with a 12-12 record, while Union is now 12-8 overall. Both teams return to Liberty League action tomorrow as Skidmore hosts RPI and the Dutchwomen travel to St. Lawrence.
Crose tossed her second straight shutout in the opener, striking out four and walking just one. The Thoroughbreds posted the game's only run in the third as junior Carol Brown hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Donata Lorenzo to give Crose all the offense she would need.
Union was unable to amount any offense against Crose as she allowed just two batters past first base. She walked her only batter of the game in the seventh, but was able to get out of it with a game-ending double play for the 1-0 win.
Allyson Staats took the loss for the Dutchwomen, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out six in the complete game effort.
Game two was all Union as they scored twice in the first behind before opening it up in the second with eight runs to take a 10- 0 lead.
Alyssa Wolejko doubled home a pair and
Samantha Chevalier capped the eight-run inning with a three-run homerun. The Dutchwomen added three more in the third on an
Aimee Palleschi three-run shot.
Skidmore got on the board in the bottom half of the third as Lorenzo scored on an error, but the Thoroughbreds were unable to add to that total as Union took game two and earned the split.
Wolejko finished 3-for-3 as she, Chevalier and Palleschi finished with three RBI each.
Sarah Logan earned the win to improve to 6-0, allowing just one unearned run on four hits in the five-inning complete game.
Julia Schwartz took the loss for Skidmore, while Abby Fuhrman and Katie Sorochka pitched in relief.
