TROY, N.Y. –
Senior Katie McLean brought in a run on a fielder's choice and the score held as the University of Rochester defeated Union College, 1-0 in game two of day one at the Liberty League Softball Tournament at Doris Robison Field.

The Yellowjackets improve to 26-12 on the season and will face top-seeded Rensselaer on Saturday at 12:30pm in the winners' bracket. The Dutchwomen are now 20-76 on the year and battle fourth-seeded St. Lawrence in the 10am game on Saturday.

The two teams battled through four scoreless innings before Rochester brought one across the plate in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Following back-to-back singles off the bats of rookie Alyssa Murillo  and senior Cara Celorio, sophomore Meghan Hennessey loaded the bases after beating out a bunt single.

McLean then gave the Jackets the lead on her grounder to second as the fielder's choice saw the runner cross. With two outs on the board, rookie hurler Allyson Staats pitched Union out of trouble, striking out sophomore Nina Korn to end the inning.

Union threatened in the top of the seventh as junior Erika Hillenbrand doubled to center with two outs on the board, but freshman Brittany Grage retired the side, striking out sophomore Alyssa Wolejko to preserve the victory.

Grage earned the win for the Yellowjackets, allowing just two hits and no runs over 5.0 innings of relief. She also struck out six batters and walking one. Six different players recorded hits for Rochester.

For Union, Staats shouldered the loss, allowing just one run on six hits. She struck out four batters and allowed one walk. Offensively, Hillenbrand went 3 for 4 for the Dutchwomen.
