SCHENECTADY, NY – Sophomore defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere became the ninth Union player to earn All-America honors and the fifth in the Division I era, as Gostisbehere was named a 2013 Second Team AHCA All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association on Friday. Gostisbehere is the third Union defenseman to earn All-American honors, joining Jack Rankin (Second Team, 1977) and Mat Bodie (Second Team, 2012). Gostisbehere's selection marks the third straight season that a Union player has earned All-America recognition.

Gostisbehere finished second among all Union defenseman with 26 points (eight goals, 18 assists) on the season in 36 games and is 10^th in the nation in points per game (0.72) by a defenseman. The Margate, Florida native matched his own school record for assists in an ECAC Hockey contest with four in a 7-3 win over RPI on Nov. 3. In ECAC Hockey play, Gostisbehere led all Union defensemen and finished third in the league with 18 points (three goals, 15 assists) en route to an ECAC Hockey Second Team selection.

A 2012 third round draft pick (78^th overall) of the Philadelphia Flyers, Gostisbehere became the first Union player to play in the IIHF World Junior Championships, helping Team USA earn a gold medal with a 3-1 win over Sweden in Ufa, Russia. Gostisbehere saw significant ice time in the deciding game, and was on the ice for both of Team USA's even strength goals, finishing the night with a +1 rating. Gostisbehere recorded a goal and an assist in six tournament games for Team USA.
