CORTLAND, NY -- The Union College women's tennis team opened the 2013-14 season with an 8-1 victory over SUNY Cortland Saturday.
Four members of the Dutchwomen were victorious in both singles and doubles.
Natalia Pronchick and
Mina Hsia won in the first doubles match, 8-6, and Pronchick won in the first singles in straight sets. Hsia won in three sets at #2 singles.
Hayley Lough and
Samantha Muratori teamed up for an 8-5 win in third doubles. Lough won in straight sets in #5 singles and Muratori won the #6 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).
Union's other victors were #3
Margaret Oppenheim and #4 Kathryn Collins. Oppenheim won 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) and Collins was a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victor. The Red Dragons fell to 1-2.
The victory marks the first time in program history that Union has defeated Cortland.
Union returns to action at home on Wednesday, September 18 to host Hartwick College at 4 p.m.
