SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—For the second consecutive season, the Union College men's hockey team will be on the road at No. 18 Cornell of the first round of the ECAC Hockey conference playoffs. The best-of-three series begins Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m.

Union split its final series of the regular season, rolling to a 5-1 win at then No. 16 Cornell on Friday, before falling 2-1 at Colgate on Saturday in the final game at Starr Rink. The Dutchmen, who will be in pursuit of their fourth Whitelaw Cup in five seasons, are the nine seed in the ECAC Hockey tournament, while the Big Red finished the regular season in eighth.

ECAC HOCKEY POSTSEASON AVAILABLE ON BOXCAST //
The entire men's tournament, including the two semifinals games and championship, will be streamed beginning Friday, March 4 with live broadcasts of all four first-round games. This marks the ninth consecutive year that postseason action from ECAC Hockey can be viewed by fans around the world.

ECAC Hockey tournament games will be available for viewing by a global audience and be aired through www.ecachockey.com. Fans can watch complete coverage of the ECAC Hockey men's tournament and on mobile devices as well as standard PCs and Macs. The games will be available on iOS devices as well as Androids.

POSTSEASON HISTORY VS. CORNELL //
Union has made 18 trips to the postseason during its Division I era, but it has faced Cornell just five times. Last season, the Dutchmen swept the Big Red on the road, winning 4-2 in game one before completing the sweep with a 7-0 rout in game two. Union also defeated Cornell, 5-2, in the 2014 ECAC Hockey semifinals at Lake Placid. The Big Red swept the Dutchmen in the 2008 ECAC Hockey quarterfinals in the first postseason meeting between the two teams and notched a victory in the 2010 ECAC Hockey Championship game in Albany. 
 
SERIES VS. CORNELL //
Union is 20-29-7 all-time against Cornell in its Division I era. The Dutchmen have won four of their last five at Lynah Rink, including two victories in the first round of last year's ECAC Hockey playoffs. Union has outscored Cornell 21-6 in the last five meetings between the two squads.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED //
Cornell finished the regular season with a record of 13-9-7 overall and 8-8-6 in ECAC Hockey ... The Big Red lost just two of its first 15 games, but it has struggled in 2016, going 2-7-5 over its last 14 contests ... Cornell went 0-1-1 in its final two games of the regular season last weekend, falling 5-1 to Union on Friday before tying Rensselaer 3-3 on Saturday …Friday's four-goal loss to Union tied the Big Red's largest margin of defeat at Lynah Rink this season …  Both of Cornell's last two wins were 1-0 decisions ... Cornell has played six overtime games in its last nine contests, posting a record of  0-2-3 ...  The Big Red has gone to overtime 13 times this season, tying it with Union and Army for the most overtime contests … Cornell is allowing 2.28 goals per game, placing it 13th in Division I, but it is averaging just 2.28 goals per game at the offensive end, tying it for 49th … Jeff Kubiak leads the team with 15 assists and 23 points, including a team-best 14 points against ECAC Hockey opponents, four game-winning goals and a +13 rating ... Anthony Angello, who was named last week's ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week after a two-goal performance against Rensselaer, has scored a team-high eleven goals and is second on the team with 21 points ... Mitch Vanderlaan is third with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists … In goal, Gillam has appeared in all 29 games, posting a 13-9-7 record with a .929 save percentage and a 2.04 goals against average … Gillam is tied for third in Division I with six shutouts and sits 13th I in save percentage and goals against average.

STEPPING UP //
Eli Lichtenwald has doubled his goal output for the season over the team's last four games, producing four goals. His two-goal performance against Cornell last Friday was his first two-goal game since tallying twice against Quinnipiac on Dec. 7, 2013. He also netted the game-winner against Cornell, potting just the second game-winning goal of his career.

FREAKY FRIDAY //
Union, which went 1-4-5 in its first 10 Friday games of the season, is 4-1-0 in its last five Friday contests. The team's recent Friday success is due largely to the play of goaltender Alex Sakellaropoulos, who ranks fourth in the nation with a .955 save percentage and seventh with a 1.41 goals against average in Friday games since Jan. 29.
