Box Score AMSTERDAM, N.Y.—The Union College baseball team erased a late charge by Williams College with a 7-6 walk-off win on Tuesday evening at Shuttleworth Park.
The Dutchmen, who extend their win streak to eight, go to 12-4, while the Ephs move to 6-13.
Williams jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, as Beau Horan grounded out to score Nathan Michalski and Kellen Hatheway had an RBI single through the left side.
Union cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the inning when reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week
Joe Ganim drove in
Eric Egan. Egan led off with a single, extending his hitting streak to six games, and advanced to third on a
Harrison Glatt single. Ganim singled to left field in the next-bat, producing his eighth RBI in five games.
The Dutchmen tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead.
Jake Vesling stole third and scored on a throwing error to tie the game at 2-2 and
Jamie Faber plated
Jake Fishman with a single.
Faber made it 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth, following a Fishman lead-off triple with a single up the middle.
Adam Regensburg pulled one back for the Ephs with a solo home run in the top of the sixth, but
Matt Broadbent answered with a pinch-hit home run in the bottom half of the inning. Faber collected his third RBI single of the game later in the inning to put the Dutchmen ahead 6-3.
Union's
Anthony DeSantis pitched two innings of no-hit relief through the seventh and eighth, but Williams battled its way back to tie the game with three runs in the top of the ninth.
Adam Dulsky and David Kwan hit back-to-back RBI singles to bring the Ephs back within one and David Rosas came through with a two-out RBI single through the left side, knotting the game at 6-6.
Dutchmen reliever
Bill Christopher kept Williams scoreless over two extra innings, allowing Union to seal the win in the bottom of the 11th. Glatt and Ganim were each hit by a pitch to start the inning and advanced to third on a
Sam Kirschenbaum a sacrifice bunt. Glatt scored the game-winning run with a heads-up baserunning play following a
Mike Fitzsimmons ground out.
After Fitzsimmons was thrown out at first, Williams first baseman Michalski attempted to catch Ganim rounding second. Once Michalski made the throw, Glatt broke for home plate, sliding under the tag to give Union the 7-6 win.
Faber led the Dutchmen offense, going 3-for-6 with three RBI. Glatt finished 3-for-4 and Ganim went 3-for-5. Union starter
Eric Beer allowed three earned runs on eight hits over six innings. Christopher earned his first win of the season, allowing one earned run on four hits over 2 2/3 innings.
Union hosts Castleton at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 14 at Shuttleworh Park.
