This Weekend
The Dutchmen take on cross-town rival RPI this weekend in a home-and-home series to open conference action. Union will host Friday's contest at Messa Rink, beginning at 7 p.m. (ET), and Saturday's contest will be played at the Houston Field House in Troy.

vs Rensselaer
The Dutchmen look to take back the overall series against the Engineers, as RPI owns a slight 35-34-9 advantage in the team's Division I all-time series. However, both teams fare better on their home ice, as Union is 16-13-2 against RPI at Messa Rink, but the Engineers are 16-12-4 when playing the Dutchmen at the Houston Field House. Last season, Union won all three meetings against RPI: 4-1in Troy on Oct. 28, 3-2 in OT in Schenectady on Oct. 29, and 3-2 in OT for the Mayor's Cup in Albany on Jan. 19.
Scouting the Engineers
The Engineers enter the weekend series with a 1-1-2 overall record, having tied two games with Ohio State to start the season, and splitting with Niagara and RIT last weekend. RPI lost 4-3 in overtime to Niagara last Friday, Oct. 20, before putting up an 8-3 score on RIT for the first win of the season. Five skaters from RPI have two goals each, and freshman Troy York was recently named the ECAC Hockey's Rookie of the Week. In net, junior Chase Perry started the first three games of the season for the Engineers, earning a .948 save percentage and a 1.85 goals-against average. Freshman Linden Marshall was in net for RPI in the 8-3 win against RIT on Saturday, making 33 saves on 36 shots.

Noteworthy: The Dutchmen ended their five-game losing streak with an impressive 6-1 victory over RIT on Oct. 20 in Rochester.
Darion Hanson made his collegiate debut in net for Union, making 24 saves on 25 shots. Six different skaters scored goals for Union, while 12 total players ended up on the scoring sheet. It was also the first game of the season that Union kept its opponent from scoring on the power play.

With a 5-1 win over Niagara on Oct. 20, 2017, head coach
Rick Bennett became the winningest hockey coach in Union hockey's Division I history. Bennett owns a career record of 139-74-30, surpassing Nate Leaman's record of 138-127-35.Â
Best of the Week
With five-point weekend over Oct. 20-21,
Ryan Scarfo led all ECAC Hockey skaters in scoring, and earned Player of the Week honors for his efforts. In the first outing of the weekend, Scarfo put up two assists against RIT in a 6-1 win. Against Niagara, Scarfo scored twice, including the game-winner, and added an assist for a career-tying best three-point night. The weekly honor was the first for the Dutchmen this season.
What a Debut

Darion Hanson made his collegiate debut on Oct. 20 against RIT. Hanson made 24 saves in the 6-1 win, including 14 in the third period, seven of which were made while shorthanded. He followed up his debut with second win, helping Union defeat Niagara 5-1, with the only goal conceded coming on a Purple Eagles' power play.

Cole Maier set a personal best on Oct. 21 at Niagara, recording three assists against the Purple Eagles. He registered an assist on the game-winner, and had an assist in each of the three periods.
