Box Score SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union women's volleyball team fell in another five set battle to Springfield College this evening.
After falling early in the match, 2 sets to none (21- 25, 20-25), the Dutchwomen answered back, taking the following two sets from the Pride (25-23, 25-22). Ultimately, the Dutch fell in set five, 8-15. With much of the season left to go, this team, though young, has proven to be relentless. In the last five matches, all of which have been at home, the Dutchwomen have forced three 5-set matches on their opponents, where they were down 2-0 after the first two sets, in all three matches.
Gillian Gore led the offense tonight with 23 kills, a season-match high for the first year.
Julia Louis proved to be the most efficient attacker for the Dutch, with 12 kills on 29 attempts (.241).
Sage Shimamoto dished out 49 assists, another season high for yet another first year. Shimamoto is averaging 30.25 assists per match.Â
Despite the offensive tactics, the Pride's front line protected the net well, blocking the Dutch 17 times throughout the match.Â
Gore held the team high on the defensive end with 18 digs and
Brianne Hallock contributed 17 digs on the evening.
Caroline Everts also added 14 digs and proved to be clutch defensively in the latter half of the match.Â
Stat of the Day:
105 -Â With 23 kills on the evening, Gore has surpassed 100 career kills and ended the match with a career total of 105.Â
The Dutchwomen have a quick turnaround, as they return to action tomorrow at 6 p.m. to kick off the Union Crosstown Tournament which is hosted by Union College and the Sage Colleges, Friday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Sept. 16.Â
