SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior
Kerry Kelly of the Union College women's swimming and diving team started her season just as she ended her junior campaign, earning Liberty League Swimmer of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Kelly emerged from the pool victorious in all four of her races on Saturday afternoon, earning three individual wins and one relay victory in helping the Dutchwomen to a season-opening 170-128 win over Skidmore College at Alumni Gym Pool.
The two-time reigning Liberty League Swimmer of the Year started her season by winning the 200 butterfly by an impressive 13.94 seconds with a time of 2:10.97, then took the 100 butterfly by nearly five seconds in 1:00.76. She went three-for-three individually by capturing the 200 individual medley with a 2:17.39 finish before anchoring the first-place 400 free relay to a time of 3:53.64.
Last season, Kelly earned CSCAA All-America honors in both the 400 IM and the 200 butterfly while winning three Liberty League titles in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 butterfly.
Kelly and the Dutchwomen will host their final home meet of 2019 on Saturday, when Union hosts Amherst College beginning at 1 p.m. at Alumni Gym Pool.
