CANTON, N.Y. – Senior
Molly Wiener and junior
Lisa Spagnuolo both tied the school single-record record by carding 78s to lead the Union College women's golf team on day one of the St. Lawrence Invitational, held at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.
Wiener and Spagnuolo sit tied for ninth place individually in the 47-golfer field after day one following their rounds of six-over-par. The pair tied the school record set first by
Caroline Roberto '18 in 2015 and matched one year later by
Carly Cappola '19.
Thanks to the record-setting tandem, Union shot 334 as a team in Saturday, the third-lowest single-round score in school history. The Dutchwomen sit sixth out of nine teams after day one, nine shots back of fifth-place Middlebury College and 28 shots clear of seventh-place Nazareth College. Defending national champions New York University shot a 289 to hold a 28-stroke lead after the first day.
In addition to Wiener and Spagnuolo's rounds of 78, junior
Juls Sweet carded an 88 to sit in a tie for 30th place, while sophomore
Ashley Harding shot a round of 90 to tie for 36th place after day one.
The Dutchwomen will return to the course tomorrow for the second and final day of the St. Lawrence Invitational.
