Career Firsts
Nine of the 10 first-year skaters have recorded their first collegiate points, with six of them doing so in the first weekend of competition. Gabriel Seger leads the freshman class in scoring, with 12 points, stemming from three goals and nine assists.

vs Rensselaer
Earlier this season the two teams split their regular-season matchup during the Oct. 25-26 weekend. Both teams lost on their home ice, as the Dutchmen dropped the first game 3-2, before rebounding to pick up their first win of the season, 2-1.

The Division I all-time series between the two teams is tied, 38-38-10. Union holds a slight advantage in the recent series, having won six of the past 10 meetings. Since the Mayor's Cup was started in 2013, Union has claimed five of the seven trophies, including last year which was decided in a shootout after the two teams tied 0-0.

Senior defenseman Vas Kolias leads the current Dutchmen in career scoring against RPI. Kolias, has tallied one goal and six assists in 11 games against the Engineers. Fellow senior Anthony Rinaldi is close behind with six career points against RPI, stemming from five goals and one assist. Junior netminder Darion Hanson has played in seven games against RPI and holds a 4-2-1 career record against the Engineers.

Scouting the Engineers
Rensselaer enters the weekend with a 10-12-1 overall record and sit in a four-way tie for third place in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 7-7-1 conference record. The Engineers are coming off a weekend split at Brown and Yale. RPI defeated Brown last Friday, Jan. 17, by a score of 3-1, before dropping a 4-1 decision to Yale the following night.

Five seniors lead the Engineers in scoring, topped by defenseman Will Reilly and forward Chase Zieky, who both have 15 points on the season. In net, sophomore Owen Savory has come out as the team's number-one goaltender, and holds a 5-5-1 record with a .911 save percentage and a 2.56 goals-against average.

Doing it the Hard Way
Freshman forward Christian Sanda was one of five players to score a shorthanded goal during the opening weekend of play, Oct. 5-6. His shorthanded goal came during the second period at Army West Point on Oct. 6.

Last Time Out
The Dutchmen hosted Colgate and No. 2 Cornell last weekend at Messa Rink. Union dropped a tough match against Colgate, 3-2, to open the weekend. However, the Dutchmen rebounded and skated to a 3-3 tie with the nationally-ranked Big Red.
