Friedman Named Liberty League Rookie of the Week Again

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – After scoring a game tying goal and adding an assist on the game winning goal, Union College women's soccer player, Sam Friedman earned her second Liberty League Rookie of the Week the league announced on Monday.

Friedman played a role in both Union goals in the team's only game of the week, a crucial 2-1 victory over Clarkson University on Saturday afternoon. Friedman scored in the 30th minute to tie the game at 1-1 when she lifted a shot over the Clarkson goalie's hand and found the back of the net. Then in the 75th minute, she dribbled through two Clarkson defenders and as she was dragged down passed the ball to sophomore Liz DiCecco, who scored to give Union the lead and the win. Friedman tallied three points over the weekend.

The first-year is tied for the team lead with four goals this season, which also adding two assists for 10 points to rank third on the team in scoring. The honor is Friedman's second of the season, after previously earning Rookie of the Week laurels on September 27.

The win kept Union right in the thick of postseason contention, as the Dutchwomen enter the final week of the regular season in a four-way tie for fourth place with two matches remaining. Union travels to Skidmore College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before returning home for Homecoming and Family Weekend to host Rochester Institute of Technology beginning at 2 p.m. at College Park Field.
