ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior forward
Josh Kosack of the Union College men's hockey team was announced as a finalist for the 2021 ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year award, the ECAC Hockey conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The Student-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to an ECAC Hockey men's player who best establishes himself as a leader within their team, in the classroom, and in the community. Each ECAC Hockey institution boasted one nominee for the award this season, while Kosack joins Kyle Betts (Cornell University) and Callum Cusinato (St. Lawrence University) as the three finalists.
"Leadership can be defined in many ways and Josh has demonstrated his leadership off and on the ice since his arrival on campus almost four years ago," said head men's hockey coach
Rick Bennett. "His voice speaks loudly to his teammates through his academic diligence. He is a tireless worker in practice and that has translated to games, doing the little things that help teams become successful. And his selfless acts of community service are exemplary."
On the ice, Kosack has been a consistent contributor to the Dutchmen through his first three seasons, appearing in 95 games with six goals and 10 assists for 16 points. The economics major also boasts one of the highest GPAs on the team and is already a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team selection.
Off the ice, Kosack has made incredible contributions to the Schenectady community through his Kozi's Kids initiative, which brings local children to Union College hockey games during the season. For his community involvement, Kosack has been named a
finalist for the 2021 Hockey Humanitarian Award, the winner of which will be announced in April.
The winner of the 2021 ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year award will be announced on Saturday, March 20. Kosack will look to become Union's fourth ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year award winner, joining previous recipients
Olivier Bouchard (2007),
Matt Cook (2009) and
Stéphane Boileau (2011).
