SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Travis James has been named the next Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach for the Union College football team, head coach
Jeff Behrman announced this week.
"I am very grateful to Jim McLaughlin,
Jeff Behrman and
Rick Flanders for giving me the opportunity to join one of the elite programs in Division III football," James said. "The standard of excellence has been set and I am excited to continue building the legacy and pride of Union Football. It's a great time to be a Dutchman, and I'm looking forward to firing the cannon!"
"We are thrilled to welcome Travis into the Union community," Behrman said. "His energy and passion for mentoring and developing others stood out during the search process."
James comes to Schenectady after two seasons on the staff at Division III Rhodes College, spending one season as the Offensive Coordinator before taking over as interim head coach for the abbreviated Spring 2021 campaign. During his time with the Lynx, James helped to establish new recruiting processes as Co-Recruiting Coordinator, updated the program's video systems, and took a lead role in branding in marketing as the team's Creative Director.
Previously, James spent four years at his alma mater, Illinois College, serving as Offensive Line Coach, Offensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator before earning a promotion to Associate Head Coach for his final two years. His offenses were consistently ranked among the best in the conference and nation, including a top-10 scoring offense and passing offense in Division III during the 2015 season and the country's six-best red-zone offense in 2016. During his time at Illinois, he helped 15 players earn All-Midwest Conference recognition, two earned All-Region honors and one pick up All-America laurels.
James started his collegiate coaching career at Missouri Baptist University in 2014, coaching the offensive line and tight ends while also serving as Recruiting Coordinator for the nascent NAIA program.
James earned a bachelor's degree in communication and rhetorical studies from Illinois College in 2013, graduating
magna cum laude while starting 31 straight games on the offensive line as part of the winningest class in Blueboy football history. He also earned a master's of education in educational psychology from the University of Missouri in 2016.
