Volleyball Recognized with AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Union College women's volleyball team was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season, the association announced last week.

The Dutchwomen are honored for the third straight season under head coach Laura Krok and the sixth time in the last eight years. To be recognized, collegiate and high school volleyball teams must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale during the school year, making the standard one of the highest among collegiate coaching associations.

Union easily cleared the 3.30 threshold for all three trimesters this season, finishing the 2019-20 school year with an impressive cumulative team GPA of 3.488. Nine of the team's 20 players finished the year with a cumulative GPA above 3.5, as well as 15 student-athletes with at least a 3.0 GPA.

The young Union squad will begin the 2021 season on September 3 at the Johnson & Wales Invitational.
