WATERFORD, Conn. – The Union College men's cross country team had its final tuneup before the Liberty League Championships this week, with several runners posting personal-best times at the Connecticut College Invitational, held at Harkness Park on Saturday morning.
Running without several of its top runners, Union finished the afternoon in eighth place with 163 points, finishing just ahead of Ramapo College (165) and a few points back of Plattsburgh State University (152). Allegheny College took top honors in the White Race with a team score of 72.
Junior
Charlie Alekson led Union on the course once again on Saturday, coming less than a second away from a top-10 finish. He took 11th place with a time of 26:37 on the 8K course to post Union's top time for the fourth straight race and fifth time in six events this season.
Senior
Aiden Rowley and junior
Ben Trantanella both posted top-30 finishes as well for Union. Rowley took more than 40 seconds off his time from last week at Westfield State and nearly 30 seconds off his personal-best 8K time, crossing the finish line in 27:12.00 to place 25th. Trantanella followed close behind with a time of 27:14.50 to place 26th overall.
Junior
Mark D'Alessandro crossed the line 40th with a time of 27:49.60, and sophomore
Alex Brites finished in a career-best 29:02.40 to place 64th overall.
Union will take next weekend off from competition in preparation for the Liberty League Championships, which will be held at Vassar Farm in Poughkeepsie on October 29. The men's race is set to go off at 1 p.m.
