Box Score 2 SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College softball team hosted the Ithaca College Bombers on Friday afternoon at Alexander Field. The Bombers won both games, 6-2, 7-1.
Game One: Ithaca 6, Union 2
The Bombers struck first in the top if the first, plating four runs in the inning. They added two more runs in the top of the fourth taking a 6-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, junior
Tara Hartnett launched a home run over the left field wall to cut into the Bomber's lead. This was her second home run of the season. Union added another run in the inning, when junior
Olivia Valery scored senior
Lindsey Podlaski on a groundout. Union trailed 6-2
Union had chances in the sixth inning, but were unable to score anyone. They fell 6-2 to Ithaca.
First-year
Jessie Rooney (5-4) was tabbed with the loss. She threw five innings, allowing five hits and 6 runs (4 earned) while striking out six in the effort. Senior
Rochelle Nuqui entered the game in the top of the sixth with two runners one and kept the score 6-2 with two scoreless innings and a strike out to keep the Bombers at bay.
Game Two: Ithaca 7, Union 1
Similar to game one the bombers started off the scoring in the first inning scoring a wild pitch. In the top of the fourth inning, Ithaca scored four runs on four hits and an error to extend their lead to 5-0.
Union scored in the bottom of the fourth inning when junior
Karson Saunders scored on a foul ball pop out by classmate
Amanda Granato, cutting into the lead, 5-1.
The Bombers added to their lead in the sixth inning, scoring twice on two hits, making it 7-1 Bombers. Union lost 7-1.
Granato (5-4) was credited with the loss. She threw six innings, allowing 7 runs on 10 hits and struck out three. Nuqui came in the top of the seventh and had a one two three inning.
The Dutchwomen (10-8, 0-6) get right back on the diamond tomorrow, April 16, when they travel to Rochester, N.Y. to face off against the Tigers of RIT in a Liberty League double header. First pitch for game one is set for 1 p.m.
