SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior captain
Connor Murphy of the Union College men's hockey team has signed with the Calgary Wranglers of the American Hockey League, the team announced Wednesday.
The Wranglers are the top affiliate of the Calgary Flames and currently sit in first in the AHL's Pacific Division. Murphy signed an amateur tryout agreement and will report this week.
The Hudson Falls, N.Y native etched his name in Union's record book in his two seasons in garnet. He started all 37 games in the 2021-22 season and in 31 of the 35 games this season, posting a combined 26-35-4 record with five shutouts. Murphy set the single-season record for saves with 1,060 last season and is tied in sixth place in career shutouts with five. He is one of only two netminders in Union's history to shut out the same opponent three times, blanking rival Rensselaer three times in six games, including back-to-back shutouts in the Capital District Mayor's Cup.
Murphy finished his collegiate career with 1,796 saves, which places him in eighth in Union's Division I record book and a .906 save percentage, which places him in ninth. His 14 wins last season place him in tenth in single season wins. Murphy's 51 saves at Maine on Dec. 10, 2021 places him ninth in single-game saves.
The senior will join former Union hockey student-athlete Nick DeSimone in Calgary.
