POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Union College women's cross country team was one of only three schools to have runners place in the top-15 as the Garnet Chargers earned third place out of six teams at the Vassar Season Starter, held on Friday evening at Vassar Farm.
Union placed five runners in the top-22 scorers to finish the event with 84 points, easily earning third place ahead of Stevens Institute of Technology (124 points). New York University took top honors with 25 points, including four of the top-five individual finishers, while host Vassar placed second with 33 points.
Junior
Cat Dacey was the only non-NYU or Vassar runner to crack the top-10 on the day, finishing the 3K course in 11:10.5 to place 10th overall. She was joined in the top-15 by senior
Allison Malatesta, who crossed the line in 11:34.0 to earn 15th place.
Senior
Alayna Gibson took 23rd place overall with a time of 11:56.5, while first-year
Amelia Wagner (12:16.7) and junior
Caroline Kelly (12:17.9) also cracked the top-30 in 28th and 30th place, respectively.
Union will be back in action next Saturday at the Trinity (Conn.) Invitational.
