Dacey Places 67th at NCAA Cross Country Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Senior Cat Dacey finished off her Union College cross country career by placing 67th out of 293 runners at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships, held at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday morning.

Dacey traversed the soft 6K course in a time of 22:06.9 to finish in the top quarter of the season's most competitive Division III race, shaving over 16 seconds off her NCAA time from last season and posting the eighth-best time on both her and Union's all-time list.

Dacey was near the front of the pack in the opening kilometer, starting strong with a 3:10.6 opening 1K to sit in 19th place. She was just outside the top-40 at the midway point of the race, crossing the 3K mark in 43rd place with a personal-best split of 10:24.2. She stayed in the top-quarter of the field for the remainder of the race, crossing the 5K mark in 61st place with another personal-best split before closing with a 3:52.5 final kilometer.

Faith Duncan of Wilmington College led the entirety of the race to win the individual national title in 20:16.5, while Massachusetts Institute of Technology captured the team title with a team score of 128, 10 points ahead of the University of Chicago.

The NCAA Championship completes an incredible cross country career for Dacey, who will graduate with the top-11 6K times and the only two USTFCCCA All-Region honors in women's program history. The senior will turn her attention back to track & field, where she owns one indoor and three outdoor program records with one year left to run.
