SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Junior
Liz Bentsianov carded a season-low round of 77 to lead the Union College women's golf team against St. Lawrence University on a rainy and windy Saturday afternoon at Schenectady Municipal Golf Course. The Garnet Chargers and Saints finished the day in a tie, with both teams ending the afternoon with a team score of 386.
"I was very proud of all of our players for their perseverance in trying conditions today," said head coach
Matt McPhillips. "All the way through the lineup, nobody gave up and every shot wound up counting to the overall result. I am also very appreciative of the varsity athletes that showed up to cheer our players on!"
Bentsianov battled through the difficult conditions to match the third-lowest round of her career and the fourth-lowest round in program history, with a five-over round of 77. Her total, which included a career-best three birdies, was good for a nine-stroke lead over runner-up Erika Fuentes of the College of Saint Rose.
Sophomore
Shea White finished fourth overall with a round of 95, followed by junior
Katerina Dimacopoulos carding a 102. Sophomore
Emily Evans rounded out Union's four scorers with a 112.
Union will remain in the Capital Region for next week's Liberty League Championships, which will be held at Pinehaven Country Club in Guilderland on Saturday and Sunday.
