SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College and Russell Sage College softball teams completed a little over four innings of play as part of their scheduled doubleheader at Alexander Field Tuesday afternoon before weather canceled the remainder of the day's competition.
 
At the time of the cancellation, Sage maintained a 2-1 lead with one out in the top of the fifth. The Gators two runs came in the top of the fourth thanks to a two-RBI single from Isabella Vano, before Union responded with one of their own in the home half courtesy of sophomore Haley Gibbons' single to score junior Tatum Perkins after her one-out triple.
 
Not long after lightning was spotted at neighboring Bailey Field, sending Union men's lacrosse's first-round matchup of the Liberty League Tournament against Clarkson into a delay, lightning was spotted at Alexander Field. The two teams went into an ensuing lighting delay of their own before rain came into the area and washed out the remainder of game one and all of game two.
 
The doubleheader will not be made up, and concludes the Garnet Chargers 2024 home slate. Union returns to the road on Wednesday, when they travel to Middlebury College for a makeup of their doubleheader previously scheduled for April 3rd at 3:30 p.m.
