SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Head coach Michelle Connors has stepped down following 11 years as head coach and 13 years overall with the Union College softball team, Director of Athletics
Jim McLaughlin '93 announced on Monday.
Â
"We thank Michelle for her dedication to the Union softball program and her efforts on behalf of our student-athletes for more than a decade," said McLaughlin. "We certainly wish her the best going forward."
Â
"I am grateful for my time at Union College," said Connors. "I want to thank all of the incredible people I had the opportunity to work with over the years, especially our faculty mentor, Professor [Brian] Cohen, and our entire athletic training staff, who worked tirelessly for our student-athletes."
Â
Following two seasons as an assistant coach and associate head coach at Union, Connors took over as head coach in 2014 and departs with 122 wins to her credit, the second-most victories by a head coach in Union softball history. Her teams reached double figures in wins in five of her 10 seasons (the 2020 campaign was canceled before it started due to the COVID-19 pandemic), paced by a 22-13 record in 2014 that saw the team finish third in the very competitive Liberty League with a 9-3 mark. At least one player earned All-Liberty League honors in every season under Connors' watch, while six players earned NFCA All-Region recognition and one earned NFCA All-America laurels.
Â
The search for the next head coach of the Union softball program will begin shortly.
