Volleyball Earns Staff of the Year; Three Named All-Conference

TROY, N.Y. – Three members of the Union College women's volleyball team earned All-Conference honors and head coach Annie DeLoid and her staff were recognized as Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year for the 2025 season, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

Senior co-captain Shannon McGrath was named to the All-Liberty League first team for the second straight season, followed by junior Maddie McCarron and sophomore Allie Kronenberg earning spots on the second team. All three players have been recognized with All-Conference laurels in every year of their collegiate careers.

McGrath is the first Union player to earn back-to-back first-team honors since Kat Moeller '17 in 2015-16 and just the fifth overall since 2000, while also becoming the fourth player in program history to earn All-Conference recognition in four straight seasons. The senior outside led the team in kills for the fourth consecutive year with 407, placing her third in the conference in kills and second on the school's all-time single-season list in kills per set (4.24). She also ranked 12th in the conference in hitting percentage – and third among hitters with more than 500 attempts – as well as 10th in digs per set and third in points per set. She recorded at least eight kills in every match this season and reached double figures in 25-of-of-28 outings, while also finishing the year with 14 double-doubles. The senior captain will graduate fifth all-time in career kills (1,297) and second in kills per set (3.51) at Union.

McCarron earns recognition for the third straight season, moving up to the second team after a pair of honorable mentions as a first-year and sophomore. Despite missing 10 matches midway through the year, the junior still ranked third on the team with 56 blocks while hitting .282 with 121 kills in 65 sets, providing a key presence at the net for the Garnet Chargers. She was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week in early November after hitting .606 with 20 kills on 33 swings in victories over William Smith College and Babson College. The middle blocker will enter her senior season as a career .285 hitter (third in program history) with 460 kills and 238 blocks to her credit.

Kronenberg picks up a second straight second-team honor to start her collegiate career after another excellent season as the team's primary setter. The Lexington, Ky., native led the team and ranked third in the Liberty League with 1,020 assists (9.81/set), placing 11th on the school's single-season assists list and ranking fifth all-time in assists per set. She also put down 68 kills and 26 service aces while leading the team with 59 blocks and ranking third with 210 digs. She had at least 20 assists in 29-of-31 matches this season, including a career-best 54 in a five-setter against Oswego Sate, and at least one kill in 27 contests. Through two seasons, the sophomore already ranks seventh in school history in assists (1,862) and her current average of 8.87 assists per set is the highest-ever for a Union player with at least 200 sets played.

DeLoid and assistant coaches Ben Rosenthal, Sydney Neff and Taylor Marcella are the first Union staff to earn conference Coaching Staff of the Year honors since 2008 after guiding the Garnet Chargers to their best season in a decade, posting a 22-9 overall record and a 7-1 mark in Liberty League play. The team earned its first top-two conference regular-season finish since 2015, while its .875 conference winning percentage was the program's highest since regular-season conference play started in 2011.
