Men's Swimming & Diving Opens Bomber Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Union College men's swimming & diving team opened up the Bomber Invitational at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium on Thursday.

During prelims in the morning session, 14 Union men's and women's swimmers earned spots in finals events. By the end of Day 1, Union posted 17 lifetime-best swims and 16 season bests. The men's team sits in fifth place out of six teams at the meet with 219 points. The host institution Ithaca College is in first with 865 points.

On the men's side, Union's 200 freestyle relay kicked off the night with an eighth-place finish (1:32.05). Senior Josh Hiller led off the relay, followed by first-year Emlen Lease, junior Gavin Baltes, and first-year Lucas Miller.

In Union's two other A-final appearances, first-year Troy Luley posted a 1:59.65 in the 200 individual medley, and sophomore Nick Megas reached the podium in the 50 freestyle after a third-place finish (21.00). Megas posted the eighth-fastest 50 free time during the prelims session earlier in the day and outdid himself in the finals, improving to sixth place in the program's record book.

Miller posted a 4:54.87 in the 500 freestyle, good for 14th place, senior Drew Hill placed 16th in the 50 free (22.27), and first-year Nathan Lowney, sophomore Brayden Green, MIller, and Baltes teamed up for an 11th-place performance in the 400 free relay (3:47.06).

Union competes in the second day of the three-day Bomber Invitational on Friday, Dec. 5, beginning at 9 a.m.
