Women's Swimming & Diving Kicks Off Bomber Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming & diving team opened up the Bomber Invitational at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium on Thursday.

During prelims in the morning session, 14 Union men's and women's swimmers earned spots in finals events. By the end of Day 1, Union posted 17 lifetime-best swims and 16 season bests. The women's team sits in sixth place out of seven teams at the meet with 210.5 points. The host institution Ithaca College is in first with 775 points.

On the women's side, Union's 200 freestyle relay kicked off the night with a fourth-place finish (1:43.86). First-year Maggie Reale led off the relay followed by first-year Mya Schattin, junior Grace Furtado, and senior Alison Silver. Sophomore Maddie Stanley, junior Jess Konsky, first-year Julia Garber, and first-year Lucia Lazarus competed in the B-final of the 200 free relay and placed 11th with a time of 1:43.81.

Junior Chloe Matthews and Garber appeared in the B-final of the 200 individual medley, finishing 14th (2:20.33) and 15th (2:20.61), respectively.

Konsky, first-year Ali Sweeney, Garber, and Matthews finished the first night of the three-day meet with a fifth-place performance in the 400 medley relay (4:12.27).

The Garnet Chargers hit the pool again on Friday, Dec. 5 at 9 a.m. for the second round of prelims at the Bomber Invitational.
