Men's Swimming & Diving Secures Four Spots in A-finals at Bomber Invite

ITHACA, N.Y. – Union College men's swimming & diving first-year Troy Luley cracked the program's top 10 with the fifth-fastest 100 breaststroke all time, and four Garnet Chargers overall competed in A-finals on Friday night at the Bomber Invitational, hosted by Ithaca College at the the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium.

Luley finished third in the 100 breast with a 58.17. Senior Drew Hill also earned a third-place finish, touching the wall in 51.04 of the 100 butterfly, Luley's classmate Tripp Kennedy placed sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:44.81), sophomore Nick Megas finished seventh in the 200 free (1:44.88).

Including Union's four A-finalists, 12 men's swimmers earned spots in 15 finals events on Day 2 of the annual midseason meet. 

Senior Josh Hiller finished 13th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.11, and first-year Emlen Lease placed 13th in the 100 breast (1:01.73). 

Junior Gavin Baltes was one of six Garnet Chargers suiting up for C-finals events. He posted a lifetime best in the 200 free, placing 17th and finishing in 1:50.55. 

Sophomore Rob Shontz competed in the C-final of the 100 fly and 100 back, first-year Chase Reynolds swam in the C-final of the 100 fly and 100 breast, and sophomore Brayden Green also earned spots in the C-final of those two events. 

First-year Nathan Lowney and sophomore Crosby Grim rounded out Union's C-finalists in the 200 free and 100 breast, respectively. 

Union's 200 medley relay team of Hill, Luley, Green, and senior Benjamin Sperling placed seventh with a time of 1:39.13, and its 800 freestyle relay placed fourth (7:07.45), composed of Kennedy, first-year Lucas Miller, Megas, and Luley. 

Junior Cole Pierson secured a sixth-place finish in the 1-M dive with a score of 265.10.

The Garnet Chargers are in the same position of the team standings as they were after Thursday's events, sitting in fifth with 595 points. Ithaca leads the six-team field with 1,903. 

Union wraps up the Bomber Invitational and its 2025 schedule on Saturday, Dec. 6 with prelims beginning at 9 a.m.
