UTICA, N.Y. – Senior
Gabby Baker earned top honors in the 400-meter dash to lead the Union College women's indoor track & field team to seven career-best results at the non-scoring Utica Blue and Orange Invitational, held on Saturday at the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center.
Baker posted the best time of her career in the 400 on Saturday, crossing the line in 1:01.03 to win her heat by over three seconds and earn the overall victory by nearly a quarter of a second.
Sophomore
Ashley Sheldon also picked up a victory in the high jump, clearing 1.61 meters to match her season-best and defeat 27 other jumpers. She cleared 1.58 meters on her first attempt and was the only jumper out of four to get over the 1.61-meter bar to earn the win. The sophomore also placed 13th in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 9.83 seconds.
Senior
Cat Dacey took third place out of 69 runners in the mile, finishing in 5:09.19 to finish off a steady race that never saw her fall below fourth place at any checkpoint. Sophomore
Annabel Dobash also placed seventh in the mile, taking more than two seconds off her previous career best with a 5:17.36 finish, while first-year
Kyleigh Record qualified for the Liberty League Championships with a 5:21.49 run to place 12th.
First-year
Bethel Flanagan just missed a top-10 finish in the 800 meters as well, placing 11th in a career-best time of 2:23.58.
Union will return to action next weekend, competing at Nazareth University's D-III Elite Meet on Friday and Saturday.
