Neff Takes Sixth in the Mile to Close Out AARTFC Championships

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's indoor track & field team wrapped up competition on Saturday at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships, held at Ithaca College's Glazer Arena on Friday afternoon.

Senior Ben Neff was the lone runner for the Garnet Chargers on day two, earning three points to place Union in a tie for 35th out of 38 scoring teams and 54 total schools.

Neff came less than a second from matching his own school record in the mile in his final indoor race, finishing in 4:19.84 to earn three points with a sixth-place finish. Going off in the first heat, Neff made his move at the start of the second half-mile to lead the pack and set the pace for the remainder of the race, with his closing lap of 30.50 seconds the fastest among any of the top-eight finishers.

Union will have to wait to see if senior Sam Ahern makes the cut for the NCAA Championships, with his time in the 200-meter dash currently ranking 21st in Division III. Selections will be announced tomorrow morning on NCAA.com.

The remainder of the Garnet Chargers will take a few weeks off from competition before beginning the outdoor season on March 28-29 at the William & Mary Invitational.
