MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Union College women's cross country team took sixth place out of 13 squads at a very competitive Cardinal Invitational, hosted by Wesleyan University at the Wes Furhman Trails Cross Country Course on Saturday.
Union placed sixth with 248 points on the day to finish in the middle of the strong field. USTFCCCA #1 Massachusetts Institute of Technology took six of the top-seven spots to earn first place with 22 points, well ahead of #28 U.S. Coast Guard Academy (88) in second. Host Wesleyan (94 points), #9 Amherst College (223) and Smith College (208) rounded out the top five.
Sophomore
Kyleigh Record was the first Garnet Charger to finish the 6K course, completing the race in 23:01.7 to place 29th out of 135 runners. Junior
Annabel Dobash was the next to finish, cracking the top-50 in 49th place (23:47.7). Three Union first-year runners finished within 17 seconds of each other to round out the scoring, with
Josephine Withbroe taking 67th in 24:23.9 followed by
Kate Monaco in 72nd place (24:40.4) and
Eilis McKenna in 73rd (24:42.6).
The Garnet Chargers will take next week off from competition before returning to the course on October 3 for the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
