CANTON, N.Y. – Sophomore
Iyene Essien tied for individual medalist honors and the Union College women's golf team took second place with a two-day score of 658 at the St. Lawrence University Fall Invitational, held on Saturday and Sunday at Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.
Union followed up yesterday's round of 323 with a 335 on Sunday, putting the Garnet Chargers 14 strokes back of first-place Ithaca College (323-321-644) and 14 clear of SUNY Cortland (336-336-672) in third. The team's two-day score of 658 is the fourth-lowest two-day score in program history, with three of those top-four scores coming in the 2025 calendar year.
After shooting a 73 yesterday, Essien finished in a tie atop the 35-player leaderboard with a Sunday 78, finishing the weekend at 151 alongside SUNY Cortland's Gina Milazzo. Her weekend score matches the program two-day scoring record that she previously achieved on two occasions as a first-year.
Senior
Shea White finished off the best weekend of her collegiate career with a 79 on Sunday, moving her two spots up the leaderboard into fifth place and surpassing her previous two-day career best by five strokes with a two-day score of 159.
Sophomore
Carinna Anastasio finished one stroke outside the top 10 for Union, carding a 91 on Sunday to finish the weekend at 172. First-year
Emma Doherty posted a round of 88 on Sunday to finish the weekend at 177, good for 15th place, while sophomore
Ella Golas contributed to the team score on Sunday with a career-best round of 90, placing her in the top-20 with a career-best two-day score of 183.
Senior
Delaney Fox and first-year
Claire Giletta both had solid weekends as well playing as individuals. Giletta carded a 93 on Sunday to end up 23rd at 190, while Fox posted a second straight round of 96 to smash her career two-day scoring standard by 23 strokes and finish 25th with a 192.
After taking next weekend off, Union will stay at home to host the Union Fall Invitational on September 20-21 at Mohawk Golf Club.
