UTICA, N.Y. – The Union College women's indoor track & field team earned a pair of regional championship spots and four conference championship berths as part of a successful day at the non-scoring Utica Winter Opener, held on Friday afternoon at Utica University's Todd & Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center.
Junior
Ashley Sheldon started the day for Union by qualifying for the Liberty League Championships in the 60-meter hurdles, winning her preliminary heat in 9.98 seconds to reach the final. She then went into the finals and ran the 60 meters in 9.65 seconds to place second overall. The junior also qualified for both Liberty Leagues and the AARTFC Championships in the high jump by clearing 1.61 meters, which earned her another second-place finish.
Junior
Annabel Dobash qualified for both the conference championship and the AARTFC Regionals with an excellent run in the 3000 meters, crossing the line fifth in 10:38.87. First-year
Eilis McKenna joined Dobash in the top-10 with a time of 11:05.25.
Sophomore
Kyleigh Record booked her spot in the conference championships in the mile thanks to a time of 5:28.11 that placed her in the top-half of the 37-runner field. First-year
Kate Monaco also earned a top-20 finish with a time of 5:31.90.
Sophomore
Charlotte Knight represented Union in the 800 meters, taking 18th with a time of 2:40.54.
The Garnet Chargers will be back in action next Saturday at Springfield College's Massasoit Classic.
