SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Union College women's indoor track and field team sent a limited squad to Springfield College's Massasoit Classic on Saturday at the Springfield College Fieldhouse, but still managed to produce eight season-bests and five career-bests at the non-scoring meet.
Junior
Ashley Sheldon took led the way by taking third in the high jump, finishing with a top mark of 1.53 meters to earn a top-three finish in the 17-jumper field. She also booked her spot at the AARTFC Championships in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 9.50 seconds to place fifth in the prelims out of 21 runners. She bettered that mark by six-hundredths of a second in the final, finishing in 9.44 seconds to again place fifth overall.
Sophomore
Charlotte Knight earned a fourth-place finish in the mile, finishing with a time of 5:43.31. Junior
Amelia Wagner also posted a top-10 finish of her own in the 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 11:46.19 in her first attempt at the distance this season.
Sophomore
Lauryn Johnson recorded the top shot put mark of her career on Saturday, recording a mark of 8.95 meters to place 15th overall. Classmate
Epephanie LaBoy also crushed her career-best in the weight throw, finishing eighth with a distance of 12.01 meters, while Johnson's mark of 8.66 meters also was a career-best toss.
Qualifying student-athletes will return to the track on Friday at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, while the whole team will be back in action on February 7 at the Utica Blue and Orange Invitatiuonal.
