BOSTON, Mass. – Qualifying members of the Union College women's indoor track & field team went up against top Division I, II and III competition on Friday at the non-scoring John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
Junior
Ashley Sheldon had the team's best result of the afternoon, taking fourth place out of 20 competitors in the high jump. After needing three jumps to clear her initial height of 1.53 meters, the junior got over the 1.58-meter bar on her first try and then cleared 1.63 meters (5-4.25) and 1.68 meters (5-6) on her second try each.
Junior
Annabel Dobash smashed her own program record in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 18:23.80 to take over seven seconds off her previous program-best and qualifying her for both the Liberty League Championships and the AARTFC Championships. She finished 73rd overall.
Sophomore
Kyleigh Record and first-year
Kate Monaco led off the day for the Garnet Chargers in the 800 meters, with both runners posting postseason qualifying times. Record booked her spot at the AARTFC Championships with a time of 2:21.18, finishing 88th out of 156 runners. Monaco clocked in at 2:26.57 to earn her place at Liberty Leagues.
First-year
Eilis McKenna posted her best mile time of the season on Friday, crossing the line in 5:27.68 to place 157th in the large field. In the field events, sophomore
Epephanie LaBoy represented Union in the weight throw, finishing 26th with a top mark of 11.26 meters.
The Garnet Chargers will be back in action on Saturday, January 7 at the Utica Blue and Orange Invitational.
