WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Union College women's indoor track & field team had its final tuneup before the upcoming conference championships at the non-scoring West Point Tune-Up, held on Saturday afternoon at Gillis Fieldhouse.
Despite not bringing the full team to Army, the competitors still combined for six season-best results.
First-year
Benny Pierre Louis represented Union in the sprints, finishing the 60-meter dash in a season-best 8.75 seconds. The first-year also placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles, qualifying for the finals with a time of 10.26 seconds and then far surpassing that mark with run of 9.99 seconds in the final to place sixth overall.
Junior
Ella McCarthy set a new personal best in the mile, crossing the finish line in 6:18.67 to place 15th overall.
Junior
Amelia Wagner led three Union entries in the 3,000 meters with a career-best run of 11:24.10, shaving more than 10 seconds off her previous best to place fifth. First-year
Josephine Withbroe also posted her best time of the year in the event, finishing in 11:33.81 to take seventh place.
In the field events, first-year
Leah Scopteuolo-Rosen placed sixth in the high jump with a top mark of 1.43 meters. Sophomore
Lauryn Johnson placed 16th in the shot put with a mark of 8.46 meters and junior
Maggie Buckley posted a new career best with a throw of 6.83 meters.
Union will return to the track on Friday for day one of the Liberty League Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.
