UTICA, N.Y. – Junior
Ashley Sheldon broke the program record in the 60-meter hurdles on two occasions to lead the Union College women's indoor track and field team to a very strong showing at the non-scoring Utica Blue & Orange Invitational, hosted by Utica University at the Hutton Sports and Recreation Center on Saturday.
As a team, Union finished the day with one program record, seven new Liberty League Championship qualifications, eight personal bests and 13 season bests.
Sheldon broke her own program record in the 60-meter hurdles not once but twice on Saturday. After finishing the prelims sixth with a record mark of 9.25 seconds, she then shaved over a tenth of a second off her time with another record time of 9.14 seconds in the finals, earning sixth place and breaking into the top-50 nationally. Sheldon also took top honors in the high jump by leaping 1.64 meters, needing only one jump to clear each of the first three heights to earn the win and then adding the 1.64-meter clearance for good measure.
