DANBURY, Conn. – Union College men's hockey senior
Brandon Buhr earned All-ECAC Hockey Second Team honors, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Union's top goal scorer over the last three years finished the 2025-26 ECAC Hockey regular season with five goals and 11 assists. He had four multi-point performances in league games and netted a pair of game-winners against St. Lawrence University and Yale University. His decisive goal against the Bulldogs came on the road in overtime, capping a two-goal comeback and giving Union a pivotal win in the heat of the playoff race on Feb. 27.
Buhr scored another memorable overtime goal against Union's biggest ECAC Hockey rival, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, during a non-conference matchup in the Mayors' Cup on Jan. 24. He completed Union's comeback over the Engineers with a highlight-reel goal, batting the puck in the air to himself before tucking it away, and his heroics were recognized with the #1 play on SportsCenter that night.
Buhr upgraded upon his third-team recognition from his junior season and was recognized by the league several times during his senior year before garnering second-team honors. He was the conference's Forward of the Week on Oct. 13 after scoring three times in a road series against Mercyhurst University, was the Forward of the Month for November after accumulating 10 points in five games, and was the runner up for the 2026 ECAC Hockey Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
In his 33 total games this season, Buhr lived up to his Preseason All-ECAC Hockey honor and the "A" on his jersey by matching his single-season career high in goals (19) and setting a new single-season career high in assists (16). Across all of NCAA Division I men's hockey, Buhr ranks in the top 10 of multiple categories with six game-winning goals (T3rd) and seven power-play goals (T10th).
The North Vancouver, British Columbia native has produced 10 multi-point games in 2025-26, including three straight three-point games from Nov. 8 - Nov. 15. He scored his third career hat trick during that stretch against University of New Hampshire and became the first Union player to have three consecutive games with 3+ points since Olivier Bouchard '07 in 2005.
In only three seasons with the Garnet Chargers, Buhr will graduate with his name scattered across Union's Division I record book. As of March 11, he is tied for the eighth-most career goals (49), has the third-most game-winning goals (13), and is two power-play goals from cracking the career top-10 leaderboard in that category. His six game-winners in 2025-26 mark the third most in a single season in Union's DI history, and one more goal from Buhr with his team on the man advantage will thrust him into the top 10 of single-season power-play goals as well.
Buhr and the Garnet Chargers are ranked #20 in the USCHO and USA Hockey polls. They won 21 games in the regular season, marking the team's most wins in a campaign since 2017-18. Seeded fifth in the conference tournament, Union will visit fourth-seeded Princeton University for a best-of-three series in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Hockey Tournament, beginning Friday, March 13.
ECAC Hockey announced its third-team winners on Tuesday and will release its first-team selections on Thursday, March 12 at 12 p.m.
