TROY, N.Y. – The Union College women's outdoor track & field team sits in 11th place after day one of the RPI Under the Lights Invitational, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Friday evening at Ned Harkness Field and Track.
The women's team had only five competitors on Friday's first day, recording five points to sit in the middle of a crowded field of teams with 12 events still remaining tomorrow. Four of Union's five entries set new personal-bests on the day, with the team recording two AARTFC Championship qualifiers and two Liberty League Championship qualifiers as well.
All five points earned by the Garnet Chargers on day one came in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore
Charlotte Knight qualified for the conference championships with a career-best time of 12:49.05, earning her a top-five finish. Junior
Ella McCarthy took eighth in the event as well with a career-best 13:30.82 finish.
Union saw two personal-best performances in the seeded portion of the 1,500 meters from junior
Annabel Dobash and sophomore
Kyleigh Record that were good enough to qualify for the AARTFC Championships. Dobash crossed the line 10th in 4:48.56, followed closely by Record in 4:48.81 to place 12th.
The Garnet Chargers will return to Troy tomorrow for day two of the RPI Under the Lights Invitational beginning at 11 a.m.
